Holiday Cake Pops!

I am so sorry for being gone so long , planning a wedding :) I will be making Holiday Candy Cane cake pops for my brother and his football team ! I am so excited for him to bring them into the locker room , great marketing !!! LOL and hopefully great potential clients !!! :)

We will talk soon!

Project Cake Pop…

I just wanted to share some of my different experimental projects I have done! They are all far from perfect , but remember this is my journey into a whole new world!

Chocolate Covered Cherry – These turned out so yummy and moist. I used triple chocolate cake mix, substituted water for cherry juice and chopped up maraschino cherries and put them into the cake batter. For the outside, first I dipped them in red chocolate and then dipped them again in milk chocolate. I brought them to the neighborhood kids and they were a huge hit !!!!!

Hot Fudge Sunday Cake Balls – This is what happens when you run out of cake pop sticks. I was really in the mood to make a batch of cake pops, but since I did not have any sticks I decided to make cake balls, thanks Bakerella!!! I simply used vanilla cake batter , vanilla frosting ,and vanilla candy melts . I drizzled hot chocolate over the top of each cake ball, covered them with colored sprinkles and place a red M&M on the top to resemble a cherry!! So fun!!!! :)

Red Velvet Bliss - It’s a toss up between red velvet and carrot cake when it comes to choosing my favorite flavor! These are classic red velvet , with vanilla candy melts and different colored sprinkles. A classic yummy beauty :)

Protein Cake Pop Experiment…

My youngest brother is training to be a pro athlete, so I knew if I sent him a dozen triple chocolate cake pops he probably wouldn’t eat them. However, I really wanted to send him and his buddies a batch of my cake pops because I need as many opinions on my recipes that I can get. I brainstormed a little and then thought of making him Protein Cake Pops! I mean why not?! I have seen protein brownies and protein cookies, so I figured I would give it a try. I took triple chocolate chuck cake batter , omitted a cup of the cake batter and replaced it with a cup of cookies and cream whey protein. Followed the rest of the cake batter instructions, used chocolate frosting , chocolate icing and peanut butter chips for the outside. I chose peanut butter chips because peanut butter has a lot of protein! After the cake pops were complete they came out to 7 grams of protein per cake pop! I think that’s pretty good amount of protein considering the size of the cake pop. What a great gift idea for people who like to eat a little bit healthier :) My brother said they were a big hit with him and the boys!!! Here is a photo of what they looked like, inside and out :)

Bake and Ship, but How???

One of  my girlfriends just had her second baby , a beautiful little girl named Stella :) .  After the baby was born I wanted to do something nice for her and her family. I figured practicing my cake pop making and decorating would be a fun idea!  I decided I was going to make her baby rattle cake pops! I wanted the inside of the cake pops to be pink and the outside to be a darker pink. I chose to use strawberry cake mix, cheesecake frosting and vanilla chocolate melts. They came out yummy and really cute. I was proud of my rattles!

An obstacle that I have been trying to overcome is figuring out how to ship the cake pops so they will stay fresh, but at the same time stay cost effective. I browsed some other cake pop websites and they charge more for the shipping of the pops then the actually pops! It was $65 for one dozen cake pops plus shipping!!! I mean really?!! Who can afford that , and even if you could $65 is a little ridic for 12 cake pops !! Don’t you think???

When my friend received her baby rattle cake pops she told me they were a tiny bit smashed, and some of the balls fell of the stick which means they melted. :( She made it super clear that they were really good and her son could not eating them, however I couldn’t help feeling disappointed in the shipping of the cake pops. Tomorrow I am sending out four different boxes of cake pops to my friends, and trying out different methods of shipping. Stay tune i will figure it out ! :)

Please leave any advice you have for shipping baked goods! Thank you and I hope you all had a fun and safe holiday weekend. :)

Live and Learn…

One of my girlfriends asked me to make her Coffee Flavored Cake Pops, sounds pretty simple right ? Um NO ! I googled around to find some recipes for coffee flavored anything, cupcakes, cake,  whatever I could find. Every recipe said basically the same thing, and I was bored with it. So I had this cleaver idea of coming up with my own recipe! Initially, I was excited, but that fizzled fast, and frustration took over. I’m not sure what made me think I was an expert in baking and creating recipes, after all I have never taken any kind of baking or cooking class.

This is what i came up with… I started with Devils Food Cake (chocolate) then I proceeded to follow all directions on the box, but instead of using a cup of water, I used a cup of freshly brewed coffee. I was sure this would be so yummy!

I baked the cake, took it out of the oven, let it cool and then tried a piece to see where I was as far as flavor. YUGH! There was not enough coffee flavor , the chocolate took over! I needed a second opinion. So I asked my fiancee to try a piece, and for him to guess what flavor it was. He said super chocolate!!! REALLY?! NO! :(   I looked around my kitchen in a slight panic for something coffee flavored to add to the mix. I quickly, but hesitantly, decided to put a few tablespoons of coffee grinds in the cake mix. I was nervous it would be to much, or that it would make the cake pops taste chalky, however I tried it anyways. Then, I added vanilla frosting ( this helps for the cake batter to become moist so it can shape into cake balls), and mixed it well. I proceeded with the normal cake ball process, making ball after ball. Then came the dipping and decorating part. I decided I would dip them in chocolate melts. Why I came up with this, not so smart idea, is beyond me! For some reason I thought it was a good idea at the time, but WHY would I think that, they are already too chocolately!!  Foolishly, I dipped them in (more) chocolate and sprinkled some of them with cinnamon sugar, and some with white sprinkles. They were done. I decided on the name…Chocolate Cinnamon Latte flavored cake pops. Then it was time for a taste test on the final product…

They came out yummy, just not perfect. You could taste the coffee, kinda.  I am a slight perfectionist, and even though these cake pops did taste good, they aren’t exactly where I want them just yet. It all about Trial and Error, making mistakes and learning from them. I am well aware of the fact that I am no Rachel Ray, however, I am still determined to eventually be able to offer recipes that taste good, yet differ from what everyone else offers.  I already know what I am going to do differently next time. It’s funny how I thought of even better stuff ATFER I finished the Cake Pops. I plan on trying this revised recipe again soon! I will keep making it over and over again until I feel its perfect :)

The Birth of My Addiction…

KUDOUS to the infamous Bakerella, and my friend Nikki for introducing me to the magical world of cake pops. I am addicted ! I can not stop making these things. I am constantly thinking of new designs, recipes, themes, colors and everything else related to cake pops. Even though I am sure Bakerella will never come across my little blog, I still would like to thank her for all her talent that has inspired me to bring out my creative side.

During a vacation my friend nikki told me about this “oh so cute” cake pop book that I should get. After searching several craft stores, I finally found it at MICHEALS. I looked thru it and quickly found that I wanted to try to make every single one of the Cake Pops in the book. I ran to the store and got all the supplies needed to make Bakerellas CupCake Cake Pops. Let the baking began…

My new found addiction was officially born! I made my very first set of cake pops for my family! Here is a picture. I am well aware that they are far from perfect, but not to bad for my first try ;)
